Keeping Part of Your Hail Damaged Roof Insurance Check

If you do have some hail damage that needs to be repaired, another option is to add a 2nd layer of roofing over the existing roof.  Many roofing companies will advice against this but that is because they make less money this way.    Even if you have hail dings but your shingles are not curled up on the ends and its fairly smooth, then going over your existing roof with a 2nd layer is fine.  I have done this literally 20+ times on rental houses over the years and many years later I had no issues.  So when the insurance company pays you for a tear off and replace, just add a 2nd layer which can be less than half the price of a tear off and pocket the difference.

  2. There are several reasons to have a shingle roof replacement. One reason is one or several of the asphalt shingles are damaged because of a storm or high wind or aging. This type of shingle roof replacement is not replacing the entire roof but a small portion of it.

  3. Roofing insurance is really important just because of the sheer amount of weather accidents that can happen year round without any warning. For example, a tree once fell on the roof of my family's house. We were fortunate that there was minimal damage, but we were also unprepared with good roofing insurance. This was not the only time that a tree almost ruined our home.

  7. In the past it was common practice to build using plywood or OSB sheeting on the corners to provide minimal bracing.
Lastly, siding is usually attached to the studs not just the wall sheeting. EPDM Roof Coatings made to protection easier.
